Border Crossings Guide

Border crossings are the only win condition in RUNAWAYS [beta] by supercat games. Rob, pawn, and vault are setup; crossing four state and national lines is the finish line. Every crossing triggers a fresh police dispatch on the other side, so “go fast” rarely beats “go honest.” This page ties together the checkpoint funnel, the badge drop-off math, and the survival habits that actually carry a full bag into Mexico. Pair it with How to Reach the Border, Escape Loadouts, Escape Checklist, and Police Heat Levels.

The experience uses 50-player R6 servers, place 118418618261207, universe 7585140258. VIP servers are not allowed. State badges confirm where most runs die.

The four crossings, in order

OrderCrossingBadgeWhat changes after the line
1Kansas state lineKansas CheckpointFirst police dispatch; learn the pawn circuit
2Oklahoma state lineOklahoma CheckpointGreen-house safes start paying; equipment gets heavier
3Texas state lineTexas CheckpointLast U.S. leg before Mexico; densest safe cluster
4Mexico border gateInternational FugitiveHardened Criminal if you are still at heat 5

The order is fixed in the published fantasy. You cannot enter Mexico without crossing Texas, and you cannot enter Texas without crossing Oklahoma and Kansas. Treat each line as a readiness gate, not a checklist you must force in one life.

The official drop-off math

Badge counts from universe 7585140258 (verified August 24 2026) tell the funnel story:

  • Welcome badge holders: ~8,425,161
  • Kansas Checkpoint: ~2,328,074 (about 72% of joiners never cross)
  • Oklahoma Checkpoint: ~1,006,445 (about 57% of Kansas crossers stop here)
  • Texas Checkpoint: ~537,352 (about 47% of Oklahoma crossers stop here)
  • International Fugitive: ~109,589 (about 80% of Texas crossers never finish)

That is the official confirmation of what you feel in-game: the steepest wall is the last one. Four out of five players who reach Texas still fail before the border gate. The differences between making it and dying are fuel planning, heat discipline, and loadout realism ?not driving heroics.

Kansas: first crossing, learn the cycle

Kansas is the on-ramp. Most players cross within the first ten minutes by accident because the spawn ring puts a pawn shop near the line. You will not be alone at the Kansas checkpoint; treat the queue like a traffic light.

What Kansas teaches:

  • Pawn cadence. TrashAmerica Pawn shops and the loop from streets to pawn to street is the muscle the rest of the run depends on. Read How to Rob and Pawn before you load up.
  • Fuel reservation. Fuel cans and Exon station stops start to matter here. The free Claptima starter has the smallest tank, so losing it to a chase costs minutes.
  • Police reset. Kansas dispatches a small wave. Use it as practice for How to Escape Police instead of a panic.

If your Escape Checklist is not green after Kansas, stay on the next safe block and finish it before pushing south.

Oklahoma: green-house safes start paying

Oklahoma is where the income shifts. Houses and small stores thin out; green-house style safes start to appear and pay better per breach than loose household loot. This is also where inventory gets heavier, because you are tempted to stack more tools and a second sidearm.

Oklahoma discipline:

  • Drop C-tier junk with X before crossing. A full bag crossing is a target.
  • Refuel at every Exon station you pass ?the next stretch gets longer.
  • Read the Loot Priority table again. Items like the guitar, gramophone, and crown are worth carrying across; small appliances are not.
  • Save your Crowbar for ATMs and safes here. Crowbar charges in reports stay reasonable, and the ATM payout beats pawning ten laptops.

Many Oklahoma runs die because players ignore Crowded Servers etiquette. A crowded Oklahoma queue can be solved with a polite voice call, not a third fight.

Texas: last U.S. leg, densest safe cluster

Texas is the long stretch. The published fantasy concentrates safe clusters here so players can stock up before the Mexico push. That is also why Texas Checkpoint holders drop sharply: most players either over-commit or under-equip.

Texas habits that actually work:

  • Plan the Mexico push as a separate session. Texas farming and Texas committing are not the same job.
  • Treat fuel as the win condition. A stranded car between Texas and the border is a lost run; top off at every Exon station.
  • Use crew roles if you queue with friends. A scout, breaker, and carrier trio makes Texas routine (Crew Roles).
  • Pick your heat honestly. A controlled heat-5 push to Mexico can award Hardened Criminal, but only if your loadout and Escape Checklist pass review.

If you have $50,000 in your bag here, you can hold it across and chase the High Roller badge ?but only if your Loot Priority and Inventory Tools habits are clean. Wiping with a $50k bag is more painful than wiping with nothing.

Mexico: the final gate

The Mexico border gate is the only thing that awards International Fugitive. The published fantasy keeps the final push a roughly two-minute survival window while you fight through waves of police on the south side. That is where the right class and the right kit matter.

What the final gate rewards:

  • Mobility or durability, not both. Smuggler and Scout trade damage for repositioning; Juggernaut and Gang Member trade speed for tankiness. Pick the lane you can execute.
  • Plenty of ammo, but never reload in the open. Vault-trained players already know the rule (Guns and Combat).
  • Bag dumped before the final push. Crossing the gate is not the time to be carrying C-tier clutter.
  • Discipline over skill. A controlled heat-3 escape wins more often than a heat-5 flex (Police Heat Levels).

If you crossed the gate at police level 5, you also award Hardened Criminal. About 34% of all International Fugitive holders earned it that way ?crossing state lines dispatches police by design, and many successful runs naturally end at max heat.

State-line etiquette on crowded servers

Crossings queue. Players waiting in line expect left-hand drive on the road, right-hand return as the obvious highway code. The polite wins are:

  • Call your lane on voice or chat before you queue. Two crews crossing together halves the wait.
  • Refuel the next player. A friendly fuel can near the checkpoint shortens your own queue.
  • Pick a non-vault route. Vaults at crossings are obvious traps; on Crowded Servers nights, the polite play is to drive past.

If the queue is hostile, abort to a quieter approach. The badge does not care which road you took.

Common crossing wipes

  • Out of fuel between Texas and Mexico. Top off at every Exon station; do not trust the gauge past half.
  • Reload in the open after the vault boom. Cover discipline (Advanced Combat Tactics) decides.
  • Police pride fights. You do not need to clear every patrol to cross. Drop weight and slide.
  • Forced Texas push without checkpoints. Crowded Servers etiquette says wait for the queue, not fight it.
  • Ignoring the Escape Checklist. The checklist exists because the funnel is brutal; use it.

Fuel and the silent partner

Fuel is the silent partner of every crossing. A car that runs dry between Texas and the Mexico gate loses the run, not because the police are stronger, but because you are stationary. Treat every Exon station as a checkpoint of its own; treat every fuel can you see in a house as loot worth grabbing.

Free Claptima and Mudrunner have the smallest tanks. Charged and T1000 stretch. Reventador and Floppy Truck burn through the can faster but survive the hits (Vehicle Tier). Pick the chassis that matches your route, not your highlight reel.

Crossing order recap

  1. Kansas Checkpoint ?pawn circuit, fuel basics, first dispatch.
  2. Oklahoma Checkpoint ?green-house safes, drop junk, refill.
  3. Texas Checkpoint ?densest safe cluster, plan the push separately.
  4. International Fugitive ?controlled final push, class and kit alignment.

Pair with Badge Checklist as a printable tracker and Escape Loadouts for the actual kit. Border crossings are about discipline, not driving heroics. Mexico rewards couriers who arrive, not drivers who clip.

FAQ

Frequently Asked Questions

Quick answers for RUNAWAYS heists, escapes, and gear.

How many crossings are there in RUNAWAYS?

Four: Kansas, Oklahoma, Texas, and the Mexico border gate. The order is fixed and each crossing awards its own badge.

Why is Texas Checkpoint so much harder than Oklahoma?

Texas is the densest safe cluster and the longest stretch before Mexico. Badge data shows roughly 47% of Oklahoma crossers stop at Texas and roughly 80% of Texas crossers never finish ?fuel and heat discipline decide it.

Can I cross state lines without triggering police?

No. Every crossing dispatches a fresh police wave on the other side by design. Plan the next leg as if sirens will be live.

Does Mexico award any badge besides International Fugitive?

Yes. If you cross at police level 5 you also award Hardened Criminal. About 34% of all International Fugitive holders earned it that way.

What is the fastest class for the final push?

Smuggler and Scout bring the best mobility; Juggernaut brings the most durability. Pick the lane you can execute cleanly. See Classes Guide and Classes and Skins for the full ranking.
